When Robert Masterson began brewing in his Carlsbad backyard, he had no idea where his weekend hobby would take him. Fueled by his passion for the creative and technical aspects of the brewing process, Robert quickly established a name for himself in the active San Diego homebrewing community. After winning several awards in local and statewide competitions, Robert's brother-in-law and serial entrepreneur Jimmy Langley approached him with the idea of opening a brewery. They immediately got to work.

The brothers-in-law teamed up with The Local Eatery & Drinking Hole in Downtown San Diego to open a brewery next door and install a Resident taproom in the restaurant. After several months of construction, installation, and recipe perfection, Resident Brewing Company finally opened in 2016.

Since day one, Resident has been committed to maintaining the tireless dedication to quality that began in the Brewmaster's backyard. In the years since the brewery doors opened, Resident has developed a reputation for brewing high quality beers of all styles while developing a reputation for stouts and hoppy beers in particular.

Since opening in 2016, Resident has won several awards from local, state, and national brewing competitions, including the San Diego international Brewing Competition, the California Craft Brewers Cup, and the Great American Beer Festival.

The brewing team acquired additional acclaim when Head Brewer Bill Lindsay joined the company in 2020. Bill developed a stellar reputation for the incredible beers he crafted at Thunderhawk Alements, the nanobrewery of which he was Co-Owner and Head Brewer until the doors closed in 2020.

Small but growing, the Resident team plans to expand the brewery's fermentation capacity, tasting room locations, and geographic footprint in the coming years.
